Multibay tunnels (Multibay) — bays on shared legs with gutters

A multibay tunnel is several bays joined side by side on shared rows of Y-legs screwed into the soil, with gutters between the bays. It comes out cheaper per m² than single tunnels: Multibay tunnels: from 23 zł/m² net.

Net, steel structure with film, excluding transport and installation. Assembly: from 8 zł/m² net.

  • from 23 zł/m² net per m², with film, excluding transport and assembly

  • 3 years warranty on the film

What a multibay tunnel is for

We design multibay tunnels for professional crops at a large scale, where strength, stability and the cost per square metre matter. The structure extends the season — from late autumn, through winter, to early spring — and the gutters between the bays collect rainwater that can be reused.

Lower cost per m²
Shared legs for neighbouring bays — multibay tunnels are cheaper than single ones on the same area.
Oval tube
Hoops from oval tube 80×40 or 90×50 mm are stiffer than from round tube; 90×50 is +29% strength at a similar price.
Gutters and rainwater
A built-in gutter system between the bays lets you collect rainwater and reuse it.
Modular extension
The block can be extended with further bays as the crop area grows.

Technical specification

Y-legs

A Y-leg has a Y-shaped connector welded at the top for the hoop — for round and oval tubes. We screw the legs into the soil, without foundations. Steel E370+Z275. The Ø40 mm leg fits round Ø40 mm hoops only.

Reinforcements against wind and snow

In multibay tunnels we fit lattice cables as standard on every hoop. You add the ridge tube and horizontal bracing as an option.

  1. Diagram of three bays of a multibay tunnel with lattice cables marked in red: diagonal cables from the legs to the hoops form a net inside the tunnel.

    Standard

    Lattice cables

3 mm steel cables run from the Y-leg to the hoop and form a spider-web net inside the tunnel.

They hold the tunnel in the wind and partly relieve it under snow.

  2. Diagram of three tunnel bays with the ridge tube marked in red: the tube runs under the peak of the arches along the full length of the bay.

    Option · often chosen

    Ridge tube

The tube runs the full length of the tunnel, 20 or 40 cm below the peak of the hoops.

It stiffens the tunnel from above and stops the arches from spreading.

  3. Cross-section of three tunnel bays with V horizontal bracing marked in red: a horizontal tube in the upper part of the arch and two short diagonal braces to the hoop.

    Option

    T or V horizontal bracing

A horizontal tube joins both sides of the arch. Together with the hoop it forms a truss.

It strengthens the tunnel most against snow.

Strongest combination in multibay tunnels

Lattice cables + horizontal bracing

Best in a T or V variant — both are similarly effective. The cables hold the tunnel in the wind, and the bracing together with the hoop forms a truss that carries the snow.

Stronger steel at the same price

We have manufactured steel structures since 1995. We state the specifications plainly — just as in the offer.

From enquiry to a tunnel in the field

  1. Enquiry

You call, write or fill in the configurator: crop, field dimensions, timing.

  2. Site visit

We match the tunnel type, bay width, tube profile and arch shape to the crop and the conditions in the field.

  3. Production

We make the structure and accessories at our own plant in Bralin (Wielkopolska Voivodeship) — c. 10 ha of tunnels per month.

  4. Delivery

We bring the packed parts to the field, and the tubes are bent on site, at the customer's. Transport is quoted separately.

  5. Assembly

We assemble the tunnels as a full service or support your crew with our fitter. Assembly: from 8 zł/m² net.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a multibay tunnel cost?

Multibay tunnels: from 23 zł/m² net. Single tunnels: from 28 zł/m² net. Steel structure with film, excluding transport and installation.

Which hoop tube — 80×40 or 90×50?

80×40 mm is the most often chosen oval tube. 90×50 mm gives 29% higher strength at a very similar price — worth considering where wind and snow loads matter.

What steel are the legs and hoops made from?

We make the legs from E370+Z275 steel — c. 10% stronger than S350+Z275, at the same price. The hoops are from S350+Z275 steel.

Does a multibay tunnel collect rainwater?

Yes. Between the bays there are gutters that carry off rainwater — it can be collected and reused.

How do I reinforce a multibay tunnel against wind and snow?

Lattice cables (3 mm steel cables from Y-leg to hoop) are fitted in multibay tunnels as standard on every hoop — they strengthen the tunnel against wind and partly against snow. As an option we add a Ø35×1.5 mm ridge tube, which stiffens the tunnel from above, and horizontal bracing from Ø40×1.5 mm tube in a T or V variant, which together with the hoop forms a truss and strengthens the tunnel most against snow. The strongest combination is lattice cables and T or V horizontal bracing.
